The beautiful waterfalls of Athirappally and Vazhachal are situated 5 kms apart from each other on the edge of the Sholayar forest ranges. This is a 800 foot high famous waterfall and starts calmly from the high ranges, and crashes down through gorges overhung with trees. Its white spray of water appears almost magical from the rocky road that swerves around the mountain. This is a famous picnic spot for backpackers. Combined with the greenery, it infuses freshness into any tired soul. The Athirapally Falls join the Chalakkudy River after plummeting a drop of 80 feet.

Vazhachal is a picturesque spot just a short drive from Athirapally and is adjacent to dense green forestland. Vazhachal is part of the Chalakkudy River.

There are frequents buses to Athirappally from Chalakudy on the Thrissur route. Athirappally is 77 km north of Cochin (Kochi).
