chembra

Chembra is a popular hill station in Wayanad. It is the highest hill in Wayanad and is near the Meppady town. It is located 14 km west of Kalpeta and is at 2100 m above sea level. Chembra is the highest Peak in Wayanad and is an ideal area for trekking. Trekking to the top of the peak takes almost a day. Tourists can also stay one or two days at the top of the peak in temporary camps. Guides, camping apparatus etc are provided by District Tourism Promotion Council on rent to tourists who are interested in camping and trekking. This is a popular hill station for adventure tourism. The scenic beauty of Wayanad, which is visible from the top of Chembra, is very exhilarating. There is a picture perfect lake atop the hill is a perfect picnic spot. This is a large picture perfect heart-shaped lake. The calm blue eyed water of the lake at the top of the Chembra peak never dries up, not even in the peak summer temperatures. The path from the lake towards the peak is quite steep but it is worth climbing to the top as the view from the peak too is quite amazing and only adds to your sense of achievement. What is more thrilling is that at times one may even come across a passing wild beast, a leopard that may instantly hide behind the bushes.  During the monsoon season you would find the clouds kissing the peak and is quite a sight.
