Marina Beach

One of the most attractive places in Chennai is the Marina beach. It is the second longest beach in the world and offers a magnificent view of sunset. Walking on the beach as cold waves caress your feet is a favourite pastime of many tourists. There are a number of articles on sale on the beach side that the tourists can take home as sovereigns. You will find a number of decorative items made out of sea products.

Anna Square

Anna square is the place where the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. C.N. Annadurai was laid to rest. He was considered as the Great son of the Tamil soil. Thousands of people visit this place to pay respectful homage. People who visit Chennai never forget to visit Anna Square to pay their respectful homage.

Fort St. George

The Fort stands as a memorial to the past. It remains one of the legacies of colonial India. The St George Fort was historically called the White Town and it is believed to be the first British fortress in India. It was founded in 1639 at the coastal city of Madras. The construction of the fort brought in further settlements and trading activity. It can be said that the city evolved around the fortress. The fort which is today the state secretariat has a church and a museum.

Jain Temple

The Jain Temple is also worth visiting and attracts a large number of tourists to it. The temple has many beautiful sculptures of Lord Mahavir and Lord Shantinath and is considered to be the most important place of worship for the Jain community of Chennai.

St. Thomas Mount

The St Thomas Mount is located near the Chennai Airport. The Saint Thomas Mount is also flocked by a large number of tourists. The saint preached and travelled the Malabar and Coromandel coasts of the country.

Parthasarthi Temple

The Parthasarathi temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and this beautiful temple was built by the Pallavas. The temple was renovated in the 16th century by the Vijaynagar kings.

Kapaleeswarar Temple

This temple is believed to be the oldest temple in Chennai. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. As religious rituals are rigidly followed in the Kapaleeswarar temple, non-Hindus are not allowed to enter into the main worshipping place. The architecture of the temple is considered to be marvellous.

Kanchipuram

There are a number of temples in Kanchipuram which are Kailasanathar Temple, Deverajaswamy Temple and Kamakshi Amman temple. It is a popular weekend getaway from Chennai. The silk sarees produced in this area is famous all over India.

Mahabalipuram

Mahabalipuram is another popular destination situated near to Chennai. The main attractions of the place include the Shore Temple, Five Rathas Temple and Arjuna's Penance.

Covelong

Covelong has a very beautiful beach. The serene and pristine waters of the beach attracts a number of tourists to it.

Cuddalore

Cuddalore is famous for its temples which are Chidambaram Nataraja Temple and Poompuhar.

Air: There are direct flights to Chennai International Airport from most other airports of the country. Chennai also figures prominently in the international air map.

Rail: There are regular train services to Chennai from other parts of the country.

Road: Bus services are available to Chennai from the neighbouring states.
