Cherukolpuzha

Cherukolpuzha Hindu Convention is an annual convention held on the sandy stretches of Pampa River. This convention is held for a week and every day renowned pundits and acharyas make illuminating discourses. This convention is the biggest spiritual gathering of its kind in Kerala. This is organised every year by the parent body called Hindu Matha Mahamandalam. The Hindu Matha Mahamandalam is a body that takes into its fold all sects and denominations of the Hindu Society. This organisation was first started as a reformist organisation which crusaded against social evils such as untouchability and other forms of discrimination. It started a religious renaissance in Kerala and did a pioneering job in eradicating many superstitions, superfluous rituals and out-moded festivities. The place where this is held is named Vidyadhiraja Nagar after the great Guruji Shri Vidyadhiraja Chattampi Swamikal. He was a great social reformer that Kerala has seen in the 20th Century. The basic objective of the Parishat is educate the society to the historic traditions of the Hindu way of life and to form a relevant matrix between religion and society that fits well into a modern and scientific frame of reference. The Hindu Matha Mahamandalam is extending its activities to new areas and new dimensions. The Sanathana Dharma Studies And Research Centre which is a newly started wing is intended to be active in terms of academic and enquiry-oriented activities. There is a Hindu Matha Grandha Sala or reference library and there is a large collection of genuine Hindu literature in the library. The convention also aims at starting regular seminars, colloquia and study classes for young people.
