Idukki

Idukki is a small town which is situated at an altitude of 750 to 2500 m above sea level. The name Idukki has been derived from the Malayalam word 'Idukku', which means narrow gorge. Idukki is a landlocked district, with high ranges and wooded valleys. It is a beautiful hill station and a place where you can unwind and relax and forget all tensions of the world. The hill station of Idukki offers plenty of opportunities - there are mist clouds on hill, velvety green landscapes and early morning dew drops. There are plenty of opportunities for trekking on the steep hills or ride an elephant when taking plantation tours. There are three main rivers in Idukki, which are Periyar, Thalayar and Thodupuzhayar. The river Pamba also has its origin here. Idukki offers diverse attractions like wildlife sanctuaries, hill stations, spice plantation tours, mountain treks, elephant rides etc. The hill station houses the Idukki wildlife sanctuary. It has a pleasant climate and there are a number of wild animals that you will get to see from a close quarters. This sanctuary would showcase a collection of animals such as the wild boar, bisons, tigers, jungle cats etc and birds like hornbills, peafowl, woodpeckers and kingfishers.
