Kudayathoor Mala

Kudayathoor mala is a picturesque hillock 6 kms from Malankara Dam site in Idukki and is ideal for trekking. It is one amoung the four hills with a luxuriant basin in between. Elaveehja Poonchira 6 Kms upstream is another beautiful picnic spot.  This is an ideal place for adventure tourism. The fresh mountain air, the mist clad hills and panoramic view make it worth of a visit. Stupendous sights of sunrise and sunset can be seen from atop these hills. Kudayathoor Mala which is one of the four hills renders a bird's eye-view of large parts of Idukki, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts. Located atop Kudayathoor Mala, at a distance of 20 km from Thodupuzzha is Ilaveezha Poonchira which literally translates into the 'pond of flowers atop a hill where no leaves fall'. This is a hamlet from where views of the surrounding area is bewitching. Legends say that Bhima one of the heroes in the epic Mahabharata put his crown as a barrier to prevent people from viewing his wife Draupadi while she was bathing. The crown later transformed into rocks thereby isolating the area from the rest of the nearby places.
