Tanur is in Malappuram, Kerala. It was a small coastal fishing town and is one of the oldest Portuguese settlements. The Keraladeshpuram Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and believed to be one of the oldest temples in Kerala, is 3 km south of Tanur town. It is believed that St. Francis Xavier visited the place in 1546 AD.
