The 500 year old Pazhayangadi Mosque is located at Pazhayangadi in Malappuram district and is situated just 5 kms from Karipur Airport. The mosque's architecture resembles that of the Mughal style and has a lovely white dome and intricate filigree work. The mosque looks highly attractive with the coconut groves at a distance. It is an 18th century creation. The annual festival called Valia Nercha which means big offering is immensely popular. The Pazhayangadi Mosque also known as the Kondotty mosque is one of the prominent pilgrim centres of the Muslim community in Kerala. This mosque is associated with the Muslim Saint Muhammed Shah, who is popularly known as Kondotty Thangal. The 'Valia Nercha' festival celebration at this mosque lasts for three days in February-March and is an important festival which attracts devotees.
