Beypore Beach

Beypore is located at the mouth of the Chaliyar river and is around 10 kms south of Kozhikode Town. It is one of the prominent ports and fishing harbours of ancient Kerala and was an important trade and maritime centre. There is a boat-building yard that is famous for the construction of the Uru, the Arabian trading vessel. During the past the fame of Urus had spread far and wide and Arabs made a beeline to this coastal town. There were no plans drawn up on paper for making an Uru. Everything is conceptualized wholly in the mind of the master craftsmen. The whole designing and intricate measurements and calculations were done entirely in the mind of the craftsmen. There is an old world charm still lingering around this enchanting beach.

Travel

The nearest airport is at Karipur, which is 23 km from Kozhikode town. The place is also linked by road and rail with major cities and tourist centres in India.
