pathiriamanal

There is a small island by the same name as the beach, which is surrounded by the Vembanad Lake, stretching from Alappuzha to Kochi and the Kayamkulam Lake, the island and the beach. It is home to hundreds of migratory birds coming from Siberia. The word Pathiramanal literally means the 'Sands of night', this island lies between Thaneermukkom and Kumarakom and is accessible only by boat. The island and the beach is home to hundreds of migratory birds, which take a rest on their long journey from the cool climates of Siberia. Legend has it that a young Brahmin dived into the Vembanad Lake to perform his evening ablutions and the water made way for the land to rise from below which saw the creation of Pathiramanal.
