The Champakulam St. Mary's Church is located at Champakulam in Alappuzha district. Champakulam is part of Kuttanad, the rice bowl of Kerala, and is resplendent in green paddy fields, coconut groves and water fowl. Champakulam is an important tourist spot and is famous for the Moolam boat race. The Champakulam St. Mary's Church is one of the oldest churches in Kerala. This church is also known as the Kaloorkad St Mary Forane Church.

According to the popular belief, it is one of the seven churches established by St. Thomas. Every year in this church the feast is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of October. The feast of St. Joseph is celebrated on March 19th. This particular church is known for its beautiful mural paintings. The St. Thomas Statuary, where wooden statues of Christ are created for export, is located near this church.
