Malayattoorchurch

The famous Malayatoor Church at Kochi is set admist the Western Ghats and lies around 52 kms from Kochi. The famous Periyar River flows through this region. It is known as the land of St. Thomas and the Malayatoor church in this region is considered as an international pilgrim site. The church attracts a large number of pilgrims every year. The Malayatoor church stands at the top of the Malayatoor Hill which is 609 m high.

The church is dedicated to St. Thomas who is one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ. It enshrines a full-size image of St. Thomas and the footprints of this holy man can be seen engraved in a rock. The church is constructed in the Greco-Roman architectural style. The most famous festival of this church is the 'Malayatoor Perunnal' which attracts a large number of pilgrims who assemble to celebrate the yearly festival. The festival is conducted during the months of March and April.
