The St. Mary's Valiya Palli is one of the oldest churches in Kerala. It was erected in 1550 AD and is located around 2 kms away from Kottayam. It is also known as the Syrian Knanaya Church. The church is famous for the two Persian Crosses made of granite slabs which has the ancient Pahalavi inscriptions on it. These two crosses originally belonged to a very old Church located near Crangannore and were later moved to the St. Mary Valiya palli. The smaller slab is positioned on the northern altar and the larger one is placed on the southern altar of the church.

The other attractions of the church are the extraordinary age-old sculptures and mural paintings at the back of the principal altar and also on the ceiling.
