St Mary's Forane Church or Koratty Muthy

The St Mary's Forane Church is located at Koratty, about 37 kms from Thrissur, and 15 kms from Nedumbasseri Airport. The Church is popularly known as Koratty Muthy. The most revered and renowned Marian Pilgrim Centre after Velankanni, is the Holy Shrine of Koratty Muthy otherwise known as Koratty Thampuratty. All through the year, especially during the feast days, devotees of all castes and creeds, from far and wide, throng to this place to pay their respect to Koratty Muthy or Mother Mary and pray for blessings. The 1381-built shrine’s annual Feast is on the Saturday and Sunday following the 10th of October. During the Feast the statue of Koratty Muthy is taken out in procession. There is a peculiar system of offering here. The offering is of Poovenkula which is a variety of plantain. The festival is attended by large crowd.
